The Chicago chapter of the American Singles Golf Association (ASGA) is a group of local singles with an interest in golf. Members of ASGA share two common interests: playing golf and meeting unmarried members of the opposite sex. Eligibility for membership: you must be divorced, widowed, legally separated or never married and typically play 18 holes of golf with scores from the 80’s to 120.
The members come from all walks of life but like to have fun and play golf! The Chicago chapter, with over 100 members throughout the Chicagoland metropolitan area, hosts golf events every weekend from May to October. The courses played vary in location with an attempt to balance between the north, south and west suburbs. You can pick and choose which events you want to play in based on course selection, distance, etc – there is no requirement to play a minimum number of events.
A typical outing will have between 20 and 30 players, and each player is usually randomly assigned a member of the opposite sex as a golf cart partner. Depending on the course, you may be able to walk, if you so choose. At the end of the day, the group will retreat to the clubhouse or a nearby restaurant for cocktails, dinner, and sharing stories about the day’s round of golf. Though there are prizes at each event, the focus is on relaxed, enjoyable golf while being mindful of pace-of-play.
ASGA Chicago hosts a Ryder Cup competitive event each year and also a two day club championship for those who are interested. The Chicago chapter as well as the National ASGA organization also plan golf trips to local and international destinations – Scotland, Alabama, North Carolina, Indiana, Florida, etc. In addition, ASGA Chicago offers members social events year-round including house parties, Bocce Ball, and indoor golfing events.
That’s kind of what Singles Golf is all about. . . fun, friends and fairways!
